American National Bank, established in 1909, was the first bank on the northeast corner of Frank Phillips Blvd. and Johnstone Avenue. Union National Bank acquired American National Bank and moved to that location. The current Union National Bank Building was built in 1920. The seven-story building is of Italianate style, with the first floor of pre-cast concrete and the upper floors of red brick. The cartouche has “Union National Bank” carved in it. There is a concrete cornice dividing the first and upper floors. The first floor windows extend from floor to ceiling. The bank was on the first floor and mezzanine, and the other five floors housed a variety of professional offices, such as doctors, lawyers, accountants, and multiple oil companies. H. V. Foster was named Chairman of the Board, with H. E. Harlen the president. Foster Petroleum occupied two floors of the building. Currently Arvest Bank occupies the building. The building was restored to its original splendor in 2005-06.
