Right Way Hotel
100 SW Frank Phillips Blvd.
Built in 1898 by William Johnstone and Ola Wilhite, the Right Way Hotel is believed to
have been the first hotel in Bartlesville. After the annex was built in 1904, the Right Way offered 70 rooms for lodging. The Right
Way’s wooden structure was moved in 1909 to the northeast corner of 1st Street (now Hensley Blvd.) and Osage Avenue, where it served
as a rooming house and apartments. In 2008, the relocated Right Way was demolished.
Johnstone Building
100 - 108 SW Frank Phillips
Blvd.
The Johnstone Building was built at the northwest corner of Frank Phillips Blvd. and Johnstone Avenue, replacing the Right Way
Hotel. The three-story building has a flat roof with a parapet. The southeast corner is rounded with the entrance on the corner. The
cornice is emphasized with dentils, and the roof line is traced in limestone as is the belt course below the second floor which exhibit
the stylistic influence of the Chicago School type architecture. Model Clothiers, owned by H. M. May, opened its doors in 1910. The
name was changed to May Brothers in 1920. May Brothers had the distinction of being Oklahoma’s oldest clothing store still in operation
by the same family in the original location, until it closed in 2009. The shops located to the west have included barber shops, Washington
County Abstract and the Western Union Telegraph Co. The upper floors have housed a number of professional offices and a variety of
oil companies during the oil boom. Built in 1910.
