The Bartlesville Civic Center was once a focal point for civic service in Bartlesville, including city hall and library functions. Built in 1922, the Civic Center served Bartlesville for 54 years. The three-story Italianate building had wings to the north and south, and the west entrance had a Sullivan-esque copper awning. In its “hey-day”, the Center hosted many stars and road shows, such as Will Rogers, Ethel Barrymore, Paul Whitman, John Phillips Sousa’s band, and the Zeigfield Follies. The auditorium was closed in 1976 and eventually abandoned due to safety issues. In 1992, the Civic Center was torn down and replaced by the Bartlesville Public Library.
