The Pioneer building was built by the Pioneer Telephone Company in 1910 and was home to the telephone company until the 1960’s. The building is now occupied by the KBVL Radio Station, as well as other businesses. This unusual three-story building had a handsome sandstone veneer façade, distinguishing it from the primarily brick structures of that era. The first floor façade is not original. The original façade was removed and bricked over in the 1960's. In the early 2000's, the brick was removed and a façade sympathetic to the original was again installed. The seven pilasters on the façade have modified versions of Corinthian capitals, with a blue bell in the center of each and a stepped parapet with a cartouche with “Pioneer” carved in it. Note the sliding door hardware on the windows of the third floor on the north side of the building. The sliding doors were used to facilitate the installation and removal of the telephone switch-board panels.
